Lafayette Hotel Completes $4M Renovation

The iconic hotel was built in 1943 and entertained visitors such as Bob Hope, Betty Grable and Ava Gardner

Lafayette Hotel in University Heights has finished its $4 million renovation and welcoming the public to view the completed project.

The iconic hotel was built in 1943 and entertained visitors such as Bob Hope, Betty Grable and Ava Gardner.

Lafayette was known as a getaway for celebrities throughout the 40s and 50s and many a movie star stopped by to splash in the hotel’s pristine pool.

But after years of play, the Lafayette had to undergo renovations at the end of 2010. After the retrofitting and the addition of green technology, the hotel is finally ready to again embrace the swanky Hollywood-era vibes.

While it might look retro on the outside, it’s modern on the inside. The energy-efficient updates added to the hotel will help to save roughly $70,000 on annual operating costs.

The remodeled facility is celebrating its grand reopening this week, kicking it off with a complimentary cocktail mixer on Wednesday, May 9 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 2223 El Cajon Blvd.
