On Tap: Best Coast Beer Festival

The fest is on March 12 at Embarcadero Park in downtown San Diego

Dozens of breweries, food trucks and live music acts will join forces for an epic, waterfront beer festival – a fest with ties to one classy San Diego character, Mr. Ron Burgundy.

The Best Coast Beer Festival – an event that supports actor Will Ferrell’s favorite charity, Cancer for College – is on tap for March 12 at Embarcadero Park in downtown San Diego. The fest runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and again from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The shindig boasts suds from dozens of craft breweries, including local favorites like Alpine Beer Company, Bay City Brewing Co., Belching Beaver Brewery, Helm’s Brewing Co. and Coronado Brewing Company, just to name a few.

Attendees can also enjoy grub from popular food trucks including That’s What Cheese Said and God Save the Cuisine, and live music from local bands.

“Stay Classy” general admission tickets for the 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. session are selling for $50 a pop through March 11, and for $60 per person on the day of the fest. Tickets include unlimited beer samples in two-ounce pours and a souvenir tasting cup. The “Ticket to Pleasure Town” option includes admission to the 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. session with unlimited beer samples and a souvenir cup. That evening session will also include a movie screening. There’s also a VIP admission option for the evening session ($80) and a $25 ticket for designated drivers.

This beer fest benefits Cancer for College, an organization that provides hope to cancer survivors by granting college scholarships so those affected by cancer can realize their dream of a college education. The organization was founded by Ferrell’s longtime friend and cancer survivor Craig Pollard. Ferrell and his wife, Viveca Paulin, are both heavily involved in the non-profit.

In fact, on the Best Coast Beer Fest website, Ferrell is pictured in his signature suit from “Anchorman,” touting the event as his “beer festival of choice.”

In a very Ron Burgundy-style note from Ferrell on the website, he writes:

“If you’re interested in going to the most amazing beer festival in the history of mankind while helping out a great cause, keep reading. If not, please take a moment to throw your computer into the ocean.”
